The Colombo National Museum was established in 1877 by Sir William Henry Gregory, the British Governor of then Ceylon. It comprises 16 exhibition booths and a library containing ancient literature. This is the largest museum of the country and is home to many artifacts, paintings, statues, and carvings of immense historical value.
